POSITION: Laborer – Specialized in concrete formwork
LOCATION: Ottawa – Gatineau
JOB TYPE: Full-time employment
Position Overview:
Performs various physical duties as assigned. Maintain all safety standards. Moves, secures, installs, builds, loads, or unloads materials. Performs some specialized tasks which may require on-the job training.
Job description:
Use and maintain tools and equipment, must be able to recognize damaged or defective tools, be able to repair them and store them as well.
Perform routine tasks: handle construction materials, know storage areas, know manual lifting procedures, and recognize the different hazards associated with different formwork tasks.
Prepare the site: Maintain safe working condition on site, prepare and maintain the site facilities.
Work on the ground and at height: assist the carpenters in the production of formwork, remove the form panels and prepare them for next use.
Maintain the site: contribute to general site maintenance activities to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of the workplace.
Use scaffolding (or similar systems): erect scaffolding, inspect scaffolding, maintain scaffolding and dismantle scaffolding.
Concrete placement: Transport the concrete to the site (wheelbarrow), place the concrete, integrate components into the concrete (bolts, anchors, etc.), pour the concrete, help finish the concrete.
Ensure a safe work environment by having the appropriate signs at the various access points and at the prescribed locations.
Qualifications:
Very good physical condition, work in various uncomfortable positions or standing for a long time, good coordination of the upper and lower limbs.
Ease in heights, work in scaffolding and climb the formwork system to perform certain work at height.
Ease of working in a team, collaboration required with other fellow workers, carpenters, and crane operators on the site.
Ability to face a demanding physical environment: outdoor work with the following ambient conditions: frequent temperature variations according to the seasons, with noise, vibrations, and dust.
Willing to train for advancement to other positions.
Union position with LiUNA Local 527 membership.
SALARY: up to $34.17 per hour based on experience
ADDITIONAL PAY: Overtime pay
